Public Talks: Gurdjieff: Making a New World
2 CD set
Now available on CD!
Bennett talks on a meaning and purpose of life that transcends
the solar system itself. A new way of looking at life based on
Gurdjieff's teachings. This talk was delivered on 23 November
1973, at Caxton Hall in London, to an audience of about 600
people. At the time of the talk, Bennett was Director of the
International Academy for Continuous Education at Sherborne
House, Gloucestershire, where the third basic course had
been under way for about 7 weeks. Bennetts book by the
same name had recently been published and the lecture
served the dual purpose of publicising both his book and the
Academy.
In the hall, Bennett sat on a chair on the stage without a
table or podium, with a small tape recorder and water on a
stool in front of him. Behind him on the wall was an enormous
painting by Gerald Wilde, which included the words
"IS THERE "LIFE" ON EARTH?". One of the questions at the
end of the talk concerns this painting. Following his usual
practice, Bennett spoke without notes, props or prompts, and
sat in silence for almost five minutes before the audience
before beginning to speak.
The talk was recorded on fairly rudimentary equipment and
although Bennetts voice is clear throughout, most of the
questions are inaudible, and although Bennett undertakes to
repeat them for the benefit of the tape, he forgot to do so after
the first two, but his answers are self-sufficient.
